We are very excited to be offering private music lessons to your children throughout the school year! In the lessons, we will cover a broad range of topics and every student, regardless of their instrument, will learn basic music theory including how to recognize common chord progressions in popular music. They will also learn how to sit in with a band, in preparation for school liturgies and events.
Students will meet with me once a week for 30 minutes in one-on-one lessons, either on Monday or Wednesday. Because we will meet just once a week, practice at home is paramount to their success and I will give weekly assignments as handouts to be completed at home, along with regular homework.
Piano - St. Cyprian’s will provide a piano for lessons, but students will need either a tuned piano or electronic keyboard for practice at home.
Guitar - Students will need to purchase or rent a steel-string acoustic guitar and bring it to their lessons. There are many affordable and well-constructed options to choose from, and I am more than happy to assist you and your child in picking the right guitar. Students will also eventually need a capo, but I will let you know when they will need to start bringing it to lessons.
Drum Set - I will provide percussion and a drum set during the lessons. For home practice, I am aware that a drum set is not a viable option for many of you parents, so I recommend a quality practice pad. Again, there are several options and I am happy to help pick the right one for your child. Students will also always need a pair of drumsticks in good condition.
Lessons will begin the week of September 15th, and will conclude the week of December 15th. They will then resume the week of January 15th and conclude for the year on June 15th.
